Reversing Lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Reversing Lights

Post by Joeyboo21 »

Hello all, first post so please be gentle. I have an issue with my reversing lights not working(well sort of). I have an issue with my o/s rear light unit, it has a little corrsion on the terminal pins and I thought this may be the problem. So I brought a replacement unit of fleabay and checked to see if I was right. Anyway I have brought the wrong side(numpty!) but it does sort of solve the problem. I do now have reverse lights, but they are so dim you can barely see them. Any ideas? Also why are the bulbs in the tail light on the estate boot lid, twin element? They only appear to be tail lights? Thanks. Forgot to mention its a 2000 hdi 90 rapier estate. Cheers.

Commonality, perhaps, so Pug can use the same bulbs for the saloon, estate etc?

I thought maybe the boot lid light units were once going to have stop lights too but they decided against it and couldn't be asked to modify the molds.

Are the bulbs knacked? (don't scoff, I had two brake light bulbs go dim on a Squirocco) What sort of voltage are you getting?

Is your 6V.ish across the lampholder, or from the positive (green / yellow) to a good earth?
Damage to the tailgate loom where it flexes at the hinges is a common problem on most estates - do your number plate lights work OK? any other electrical equipment on the tailgate not working?
Is yours a manual? - according to HBOL, on a manual, the power goes through the reversing light switch, then the BSI, before going to the reversing lights.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

yes to all of the above. The voltage was across the bulb holder, have not tried with a good earth, will try that tomorrow. It is a manual, and everything else works as it should.
