Part Ex Question

Post by Zippokovich »

Hay ive had my 01 D9, 1.8 LX for a year now and i love it. But it is breaking a little [air con is gone and antipollution fault to boot], its still perfectly drivable and most of it works. But i am a little bored of it and the tax on it will increase massively pretty soon.

So i was wondering if it was worth getting a slightly better desil one (hopefully an exec) to avoid the tax and because i want more toys!

So my 2 questions are; is it a good time to buy these cars right now? and how much do you think i will get from part-exchanging my old 406 against one at £1500-2500?

February seemed to be the 'bottom out' time in the car market. We took advantage of it, had a bargain, and our car has gone up in price considerably.

I think you still will get a chance of a good deal now though, but part ex'ing is going to be very dissappointing.

Trade in wise I would only expect £800.00 ish - you might be best to consider selling privately? I was offered £375.00 for my 1999 exec in pristine condition at the Volvo dealers so I sold it myself later for £1,100.00 :cheesy:

You should get a decent car for around £2,500.00 but dealers seem to try and cash in on the relatively new sounding 02/03 plate 406's even though they're still 7 years old etc.

I used to keep an eye on the "Car Giant" website in London as they used to get a few late 406's in at good prices.

I always get the car *really* clean (but no "just washed" water/sudds in the picture  ) and make sure the interior is really really mint with 'hoover marks' in the carpets and NO dirt/grit in the footwells, take 9 photo's including an offset N/S, O/S, rear, front, interior, engine bay and really go to town on the description but most of all advertise it realistically cheap so it looks the best car at the best price! this has never failed for me and I've shifted 2 x BMW's and the 406 within 2 days of advertising each and every time! the 406 was up for £1150.00 and I accepted £1100.00 and the guy was delighted with it.

You have to be realisitic on price and then it will shift. I still see a Volvo being advertised from January that I was interested in but it was, and still is, over priced! I ended up getting a mega bargain from a Volvo dealership in the end and they were stacking them high and selling cheap - the place was rammed with punters.
