Mass Air Flow Meter/Sensor

Post by tempragolf »

Sorry to sound a total idiot here but does my engine have a mass air flow meter or is this specific to diesel? Its a 2.0litre PETROL EW engine (V Reg 1999). I have sluggish acceleration. Now this may sound totally mental but I have a speedo problem too and everytime the speedo drops to zero as I'm travelling I swear my engine looses a little power at the same time! Nuts or what? Any advice (other than a visit to a doctor)?

Nope, not nuts. When the speedo drops, the car thinks its doing 0mph and switches off the Air Flow Meter so the engine uses less air than it would at higher speedd. Its a loose speedo connection. I reckon its at the wheel somewhere but there are others here who think otherwise. Have a search about the site, there is loads of posts on this issue.
