Climate Control problem
Hi all new to the forum just bought myself a 1999 V reg peugeot 406 2.0 diesel
Every thing seems fine with it apart from im not to sure on how to work the heating system.
I can get it hot when i turn the temp up thats fine i just cant get the temp down when in hot weather.
It goes down as far as 14 but in warm weather thats still to warm i put air con on its just the same ive tried every combination on there but still its not blowing cold.
Was thinking that it could be the air con broken but the heating system must go below 14 without the aircon as it seems to be blowing out slightly warm air and not cold.
Can anyone help with this or direct me to a instruction manual how to work this
Many thanks

Sorry if this is a trivial matter buts its driving me mad

Re: Climate Control Stuck
Hi Sephton, welcome to the forum.
The climate control only goes between 14 and 30 (the temperature you set is what it'll try to get the cabin to, not what temperature it blows out at), but at 14 it should be blowing out air below 5 degrees C unless you're driving at the north pole! I suggest your first course of action should be to go and get the aircon leak tested and re-gassed

Hello Seph & welcome
Regarding the climate / aircon, that's just about where I started too

Hey Sephton.
does the AC pump kick in when you press the AC button? you'll be able to hear the engine react to extra load
and when the AC is running the pipes should be cold and more than likely have condensation on them
one aircon engineer told me that the pumps dont like being run when there is no refrigerant in the system so dont run it like that for too long because you could wreck it and pumps are expensive
I've just had a pipe replaced on mine and its not blowing extremely cold, dont need it anywhere near 14 degrees its that cold.

Re: Climate Control Stuck
The heating works by regulating a flap in the 'heater box' a bit like putting your hand over a hair dryer if you like! when you call for a lower cabin temp then this 'flap' works closed until it shuts off the hot air supply completely. Now you are left with whatever temperature it is either in the cabin (in recirc mode) or outside (full fresh air) at this time of year you're likely to be pulling air in at about 15 to 18 deg's but this is not man enough to cool the cabin with the solar gains in there etc.
You'll hear the fan speed ramp right up to try to use this air to satisfy the cooling requirements but it will not manage without the air conditioning. I think your a/c is kaput. Most likely cause (here we go again) ...the CONDENSER.
