Vorsprung durch testicles

Post by Doggy »

Anybody else quietly chuckling at VAG dropping unit injectors - which they've spent a decade claiming are superior - in favour of common rail. The reality is they can't meet the Euro 5 emission standard with their previous crop of tractors.
Now they have the nerve to advertise 'their' new diesel technology 'making the most of every drop'.

If the discredited senior bankers who were blamed for the current economic gloom had got Audi's PR gurus in quick, they could now be receiving awards fo reducing traffic congestion and cutting hamful emissions.....[/rant]

Yeah having one fuel pump per cylinder driven from a camshaft that already has enough to do, special oil, etc etc

I reckon the VAG's have been getting louder and louder in recent times :o

Trouble is, they'll probably be a load of 100,000 mile 'PD' engines requiring expensive rebuilds soon, new cams/followers, pumps/injectors etc etc for their poor owners who bought into the 'VW' thing.... :frown:

Got to admit I do love the TDI engines... especially in the Golf. Much, much, much nicer than HDis - no 5 minute turbo lag to fight

It's the technical term for the brief interval between applying some right foot and leaving petrol cars behind :P

I have to say, I too love VAG TDI engines. I've driven a 150bhp Golf TDI and that thing *flew*. Amazingly powerful, but rattly. I don't think we can get such power from our HDIs, even with a remap (although, I will be getting one soon).

The best diesel engine I've driven is still in the Honda Accord/Civic though. Not as powerful but refinement is amazing.

That reminds me, I must buff-up my T5 boot badge - it's getting a little tarnished.

Think you'll find the only reason you're leaving them behind is because they're already parked up at home and gone for a crap while you're waiting for that "brief interval" to end on HDis
