The garage next door to work changed the nearside horizontal suspension link, put new shoes in for the handbrake, new copper and flexi brake hoses for the nearside rear, and on the same side fitted a rear hub assembly.
The rear hub assmebly I got from the local motor factors and is a Quinton Hazall product.
I had no issues with the brakes before the work, but since, when I drive the car, the first time I touch the brakes, the pedal is all hard and high up, and then judders down ( i guess the abs working) until it reaches its normal position and then is fine. When I first start the car, there is no warning lights, but usually within a minute or two the ABS light comes on.
Normally after this first use of the brakes, they are fine, as I don't tend to do the miles I used to, but on a 190 mile journey the other day, I did about 140 miles and when I touched the brake, it had the same feelingdescribed above.
The guy who did the work, said he thoroughly cleaned out any brake dust with an air line before reassembly, as i've heard sometimes a bit of dirt can upset the sytem if it gets in there but he's adamant it's not that.
I believe the 406 has a fixed air gap for the ABS so you can't adjust?
Anybody any ideas what the problem could be?
Could there be a problem with the castleations on the back of the hub possibly being imperfect and upsetting the system?
I need to change the wheel bearing on the other side also, and don't want to do that before i've cured this fault first.
I'm tempted to get a genuine part to put onto this side to see if it cures it, or try the local bearing place down the road to see if they can supply the correct bearings to put into my old hub? Money is tight at mo, so could do without having to bin the pattern part to get the genuine articles, but if that's the answer.
Any help most appreciated
