what revs does cooling fan cut in? - 2.0 HDI 110 YR 2000

Post by pugface406lx »

Hello guys...anyone tell me at what rpm their Cooling fan cuts in at please?.....my 2.0HDI seems to be btripping in / out at around 82 degrees or thereabaouts. Today it was in and out like a fiddlers elbow, mind you the car had been out for a blast earlier to clear the cobwebs out..!

Im questioning this as Ive got another 2.0HDI Same year which doesnt cut in as often...in fact i cant remember that one running at all very much.

regards

The fan cuts in based on engine and aircon temperature, not rpm
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Either it's the heat (30 degrees? hahahaha) or the ballast resistor's gone walkies 'cos it sounds like my D8 when one fan crapped out, the other one was pulsing on and off like a loon.

It probably is, I can't hear mine either, unless I'm right near it.

Thanks for your replies guys.....its very interesting as It went ok for a few days ...now its started acting up again......this morning i started cold, no air con switched on, no internal fan blower switched on,.....yet after about 5 seconds the cooling fan kicked in.....it stayed on for about 3 or 4mins and then it switched off.....then about 10 seconds later it kicked in for a few seconds, then off again and so on for a few minutes......
I took the car down the road and about 10 mins into my journey it stayed off altogether even though the engine temp read about 88...!!

It seems to always kick in now just after start up. no air con switched on either......so im not sure whats going on......

Where is the ballast resistor located?.....and also could it be the pressure switch near the condensor??

Cheers
