G'day each - been a while...
Intermittant metallic 'tink' sound from engine on tickover, speeds up with engine rev's.
Having done a search on here I fear it's the crankshaft pulley on the way out. Of course I'd prefer it to be an injector needing cleaning so I can just bung some Forte in...
Car's passed 155,000 miles, cam belt due around 180,000 at which time I'd planned to get the pulley and water pump done aswell. Just getting council test done for replating car (£150 without any gotcha's) and am a tad skint as always seems to be the case these days.
Comments welcomed as always.

Re: Metallic 'tink' on tickover
Bottom pulley's favourite. Look for a brown 'dust' down there as that's a good sign.
They tend to be worse on cold starts and then just get steadily worse until the noise is unbearable (sounds like a worn out camshaft) actually the shift from being ticky to horribly bad is fairly swift and unmistakeable
Not saying for you to replace it based on this but this is where I'd begin to look

Thanks Welly.
Latest news - 250 quid with pattern pulley or 300 with OEM pulley at my local Hi-Q (includes belt, water pump and whatnot). They've done good work for me so far at decent prices usually. Waiting for another couple of quotes to come in.
Got home from a Heelwork to Music (Doggy type stuff
) competition last night to find her indoors 307sw missing from drive. After an initial burst of passive panic we found that neighbour had popped it in his garage after rear screen had shattered in heat on Saturday. We're dead lucky with our neighbours.

Strange for a rear screen to shatter like that
If they're changing the water pump then this is driven from the cambelt and you must change the cambelt kit at the same time. It's not generally recommended to fiddle with, or otherwise put back on, an existing cambelt.
Sounded like you only needed the aux belt changing before?

Re: Metallic 'tink' on tickover
That price was all in - timing belt kit, water pump, crank pulley. I would rather drive a nail through my foot than try to re-use a cam belt
Aux belt was changed last autumn plus had a new aux belt tensioner assy fitted at the same time.
Interestingly, used 406 to nip swmbo in to work - no noise when first started, when got hot then intermittant squeeling on tickover. Wonder if it's something else driven off the belts? Doesn't change when I load up aux belt (aircon on, turn steering when stationary, all lights and rear screen on etc). Well, I'll get it looked at later and we'll see. My inclination is still summat around timing belt, water pump, crank since it appears rev's dependant etc
or how about small sharp shattered shards).
I'm waiting in for 1/ Autograss and 2/ quotes now and will use the time to remind myself how to re-install MS SBS2003 on a server prior to sorting a mate of mine's installation, that's after I've tidied this tip I call an office - I've long favoured the composting, gravity filing system

Yeah, it's very rare and we're next to a busy footpath (paranoia mode on/ ) and we've had minor vandalism of the camper van over the last year or so. But our neighbours looked for any evidence and found nowt. The glass has shattered into incredibly small sharp shards (try saying that quickly after a bevvy or twoWelly wrote:Strange for a rear screen to shatter like that

Pop off the aux belt & see if the squeal disappears.

I did wonder. For various reasons I can't do anything worthwhile to any car these days so have to wait for it to go on ramp and whatnot.teamster1975 wrote:Alternator?
Found crank pulley wobbling, belt sliding from flange to flange and seems to create squeel then. So new pulley, belt and pumperoonie here we come...

Re: Metallic 'tink' on tickover
Und zo..
Turned out to be two things - The wobbling crank pulley and the aux belt fixed idler.
I'd had a new aux belt tensioner and belt end of last year but fixed idler seemed ok, should've known better (20/20 hindsight).
What happened? - Crank pulley changed, new timing belt kit applied, new aux belt, new water pump whilst in there. Worst of squeeling went away (it wasn't quite the old loose alternator belt under load shriek but similar - very much like a dry bearing shriek on reflection). After that; was left with a slight intermittant squeek on idle, further investigation proved it to be the aux belt fixed idler, new aux belt idler fixed that.
Sweet as a nut at the moment.
