Q: Cooling fan kicks in and doesn't stop...

Heluu,
This is the second time... last time it ran for 2 hours then i took the battery off couse i wanted to go to sleep. WTF? maan...
And now its also full speed and when i turn the ingnition the temp. is about 60-65 *C...

What to do... I don't have the guts to remove the grill cause i don't get along with plastic that well

My guess is a duff relay. If you want to TEMPORARILY disable the fan, you can yank the fuse. Don't know which off the top of my head, but I think it's a 30A one in the engine bay fusebox

BTW the lion is gone because i hit a deer a few months ago

Workshop took out a dent in the hood and fitted a new grille... they forgot to glue on the new lion so the gave it separately to me

Hmm... although I'm wondering about the 60-65 degrees, this is first thing, stone cold, right?

When the car was powerless over-night, then in the morning when i connected the battery the fan didn't start...then worked 1 day normally. Heat went up, fan didn't run on full power and worked like it should but it's summer now and after a long drive through the city it started on full speed. And once it starts it doesn't stop :S

PS! don't know if it matters but i have 1 fan system...
As i understand there are 2 relays`? 1 for slo-mo and 1 for turbo boost?

Relay sticking on? It could also be the sender (I don't think it's the same for the gauge on your dash).

Yep, 2 relays, one feeds through a big shunt for low speed, the other feeds direct for high. Pictures of the shunt here. This includes how to remove the grille.

Didn't brake a thing

Think that the blue one is the turbofan relay.


To check: disconnected the temp.sensor when the blue relay was disconnected and fan started on slow speed
Result: The blue relay was the sticky one

Had that on the 407, after attempting to pull every fuse in both boxes, the relays etc and having to call AA out when it became flat in a pub car park it turned out to be a stop light bulb incorrectly fitted (read hanging out) that was earthing

WTF's that all about then?
I mean, I know Peugeot have a reutation to uphold in regard to the defectiveness of their electrics, but like.... HELLOOOOOOOO????!

Not necessarily, just avoid idling without moving, stuff like that. Should be ok if the car's moving because the fan is only there to help the air flow. I think the biggest problem would be running the air con but hey, according to BBC Weather you're not using it much anyway...

Seems to be fixed now
And all I needed was a handyman(me) and a "swiss army knife"

And on with the plucking of the plastic thingys Do this to all 3 thingys


My knife fitted through this hole nicely. There are two of these holes (one on each side) and they are ment for removing the grill.

Insert a "something" through the hole and press on the clamps that hold the grill in place at the bottom.

Then gently sew-saw it away from the car. Gently and in a sew-saw motion because theres a third clamp just behind the "lions halo" on the bottom.

All done


Now remove the cover that covers the relays. (I also used my trusty knife with this job).


The empty socket held the "turbo cool" relay, so it needed a refill.


Put my new relay in and did everything in reverse order and voila



NOW I'm a happy camper
