intermittant Wiper Fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

intermittant Wiper Fault

Post by mikecandsarahb »

hello as im new to you all,
ive just brought a 406 2000 hdi (90)d9 and have some of the normal faults, air con gasless, low fluid beep, which ive found ancwers to but i cant find the ancwer to my wiper fault
now my wipers work and go back to parking position fine, but when on intermittant they seem to have a mind of there own, they start with say a 10 sec gap, for a few goes then go on to normal opperation then to a 5 sec gap.
my feelings are the it might be the wiper stalk, has anyone had this fault?
thanks for your help mike,

Welcome Mike! :)
It could be the motor, I'm not sure how intermittent operation works but someone more knowledgeable will be along with an answer

There'll be a sensor behind the top middle of the windscreen :)
One thing to bare in mind is that you have to turn them off and then back to auto to reset them when you first start the car.

Yes, it's normal. Should only come on automatically with the rain depending on its intensity. You can move the stalk further up for "normal" operation and up again for faster speed.

But he has a D9 now... my D8's always needed resetting but my D9's seem to carry on if the engine's only off for a few minutes. Would be useful if you could just turn the buggers on and forget 'em (i know, I know)

Yeah I've gotta off and on them unless it's just a few mins since I last turned the engine off.

D9's with COM2000 controls don't have to have the stalk reset like Teamy is describing. The early D9's do (just like the D8's have to)
