Front fogs...again!

Post by Mountain »

I recently fitted front fogs, relay & light stalk with the front fog facility. Very easy job....

However, the drivers side doesn't work. I added the missing fuses 13 & 31. Bulb is fine too.

Firstly, have I missed something obvious?

Secondly, if it is an electrical issue, is there a common place for a bad connection/bad earth or whatever.

If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful as it may save some of my weekend.

Oh, and it's a 1996 2.1TD!

Very likely - D9's definetly have them.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Ah, maybe that's it!
I just thought it was the relay under the steering column and the fuses to add. There are a couple of empty relay slots on that fusebox.

Ah still no luck!
Anyone know what the 'R' relays slots in the engine bay fusebox do? I can't even find a fusebox diagram for a D8 and there seems to be very varied opinions on which fuses relate to the front fogs.
I tried 2 relays in the slot marked R!. Black relay does nothing. Yellow seems to turn sidelights on permanently a la Volvo and the fogs(well LHSfog)!

The fuses for the front fogs are listed as F12 for Front fog left, F13 Front fog right.

Front fog relay is listed as being located above the accelerator pedal in a box of relays, listed as number 5.
According to my diagram, it is diagonally opposite to an empty relay hole which shows it as being at the bottom right in the square of relays (the top row has 3 in a row).

Have you checked for a live feed to the one not working? If you have a live feed then you may have a bad earth.

If no live feed, take a live feed off the other (working)fog light and run it through a line fuse.

Yeah, that was my plan if the live feed had no power......I've not managed a free day without rain yet....I've not got a garage.
