I have a possible opportunity to purchase very very cheaply a 406 exec estate ....however it has a couple of issues ...
1. Onboard mileage is being incorrectly reported as 500k+
2. Speedo switches off occasionally ( hehe I thought this was a built in feature of 406's ??? lol)
its a petrol .. so i guess the opinion I am after is whether its worth the risk ? Neither of the faults are an issue as such .. however is this a spreading fault in the bsi ? signs of worse to come ?
Have you got any idea what the correct mileage is?
What engine?

been told its just over 100k ... all I know is that its a petrol engine ...(I drive dervs .. being a tractor lad as it were ) i should be having a look at the paperwork next week ...condition of car, pedals, carpets, etc seem to back the mileage ...
All leather interior and loads of buttons near the handbrake ( a little jealous ..my lx only has covers ... )...
Is that any help ?
Iain
ps I am assuming its a D9 as it has the honeycombe grill but as its an early one probably a non multiplexed one?
My Petrol 2.0 litre saloon had 195K on the clock when my friend gave it up to the scrap man. The engine was still fine, it was repairs to the rear suspension, or rather the lack of money for them that doomed the car, not its engine.
I ran the thing for about 40K miles without an oil change too!
The engines are bullet proof.
If it's only done 100K and the engine is sweet you're laughing if it's that cheap
Change the cam belt as a matter of course.

It should be around the 450 - 500 mark if it works out i believe that the service history is in with the other paperwork as well .... believed to hold 10 month mot or so ..
The garage I use charged me £320 or so for a full belt kit + aux belt plus full service on my 2.0 hdi which i was more than happy with so I guess they will be having this one as well if it works out!
main concern was the bsi .. but as long it doesn't get worse it seems like an ideal run around.
Oh and its a manual as well rather than the auto box ....
