Is absolutely everyone a moron?

Post by Captain Jack »

So, like... I got caught speeding... again - 39 in a 30 by a mobile van. Fair enough (you useless plods).

I got offered a "Speed Awareness" bollocks course, to which I said yes. Saves 3 points and maybe I'd actually learn something. Anyway, on the form in "Additional Information" section, I said that I would not be able to attend between 28th Aug and 14th Sept as I am on holiday (and abroad). Guess when they "invited" me to attend? Yep, 4th Sept... AND to get a different date, I have to pay an additional £30 on top of the original £60. Courtesy of Somerset County Coucil.. (you fkwits)

My blood is evaporating...

That's what you get for getting caught! :cheesy: [Clarkson voice]Not that I advocate speeding, obviously...[/Clarkson voice]

I hope they let you change the date as you did particularly specify you couldn't attend between those dates on the form, so fingers crossed!

When you ring them you should be able to sort it but be nice on the phone.

They should waiver the £30.00 addition because you did specify the dates on the additional info. The £30.00 charge is most likely for people who miss or otherwise try to cancel at late notice their appointments.

Good luck chap.

I am shocked. I phoned up SCC and explained to the lady what happened. She brought up my "file" - I feel like a criminal now - and immediately saw that I DID say I couldn't attend the specified dates on the form. She was very apologetic and rescheduled for later on in September without the extra £30.

Turns out there still is humanity and common sense left in the world...

They probably do, but you need to be doing a certain speed. As far as I know it's:

35-39mph in 30
47-49mph in 40
57mph in 50

Anything else and you won't be offered a course.

I'm glad you've got that sorted Alex! :)
The first time I was caught I was doing 34 in a 30, the copper was a prize @rsehole :frown:
2nd time I was on the bike, caught me doing 42 in a 30, I was "maneuvering" round a tw@t that had cut me up  (I deserved that one!)

There, see, listen to Uncle Welly - I told you you'd be fine :cheesy:

Last time I enquired about getting my SP50 removed from year 2000 I was told it would cost £30.00 to do that

I did a crafty on that point; I waited until I moved house & sent my license off for the address to be changed. They automatically took the points off! :cheesy:

Interesting, but then does it cost for the address to be changed?

Address changes are free but they never took mine off when I moved, although I suppose the penalty wasn't 5 years old at that point. I'm sure 5 years is the cut-off point.

Maybe I should move house again to save the £30.00, yeah that'll show em :)

Lucky timing on my part I know (mind you I had moved a year earlier  )
The points are valid for 3 years and can be removed after 4.
