406 90 hdi 2003 - belt and pulley?

Post by bizman »

HI All,
Sorry if this has been asked a 100 times. My dad has just bought a 406 HDi 90 2003 with 120k miles and we are going to change the timing belt. I have read that you should also change the crank pulley?
Any other advice on this job is welcome. :?

Hello & Welcome 8)

If you plan on keeping it for a fair while, I'd change the water pump while you're at it - £54 inc gasket from Peugeot, quite possibly cheaper elsewhere, (think I paid about £30 for mine 18 months ago).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Change the pulley
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!
