406 to 407

I know we all love them, but but how many of us will eventually upgrade to the 407? I notice prices for ex fleet vehicles( my usual secondhand source) are coming into my range, so was wondering what I would be gaining apart from styling?

I have bought a 407 2.0 136 HDi, we are waiting for our private reg to be changed over from the 406 to the 407 before we can use it on the road.

I will give an appraisal of the car when I get it on the road ( a couple of weeks yet as the new registrations mean the DVLA are very busy).

I don't agree with the small boot comment, It's slightly narrower than the 406, but much deeper.

The 407 has had reported problems with bottom ball joints, my mot guy says he's only seen 2 in the last year, one of them was in for repair one day when I was there.My mate there showed me how to replace them, very simple job, no worries there.

I heard about rear caliper sticking problems, nothing unusual there, the 407 uses the same caliper as the Ford Focus, Renault, Vauxhall, and many other cars, regular attention is required to keep them in good order.

I admit the clutch bothers me a little, but my wife will drive it mostly, and as her mileage is 99% motorway, the clutch should last longer than normal, but worse case, I would change it myself.

The 407 has the same issues as the 406 with anti-pollution problems.

The truth is, all cars have something undesireable, I can list regular faults on all sorts of cars, it's a fact of life....would you believe that Rolls Royce used to have the Citroen Xantia rear suspension system fitted?

They stopped doing the 407 with the ES9J4S didn't they? :(

The only negative thing I've heard of is the Diesel's clutch slipping (when hot) but then the 406 can do that, and a reported lack of visibilty for the rear passengers (travel sickness etc).

The front sussy has double wishbones and corners like it's on rails (apparently) but retains a supple(ish) ride although not as wafty and comfy like the 406 but that's the way cars are going now. You should see my Volvo, the ride is rock-hard :o

Not sure about that, there is a 3.0 V6 listed, also a V6 HDi, the later HDi engines are 140 BHP instead of 136.

It was definitely an option when I looked at a 407 as a company car when they were brand new, but they don't seem to list them on the sales website any more, just the 2.7 V6 HDi which is slower, puts out as much emissions and drinks fuel about the same as the petrol :roll:

Mmm, me thinks that engine in a 407 will be one of those cars no-one wants in a few years :|

ive never had one, but i love the look of the 407 coupe, and the 607.

if only money wasnt an issue ey :lol:

i know i couldnt afford either!

Well that doesn't matter, wait 12 months and you'll be able to buy both, and still have change for Fish & Chips........

HI,
Although Ive not even driven one...I've been put off by the comments from other drivers.
They suffer from VEEERY expensive clutch problems according to the garage &
even more electrical faults. I did watch in horror one day as I watched a driveshaft change
and watching the oil coming from the gearbox full of swarf and shavings. This on a 54k hdi model.

Could the stuff in the gearbox oil just be due to it being the first oil change the gearbox it has had?

i.e all the stuff created from running it in.

ive heard all new peugeot hdi's suffer from problems with dual mass flywheels, so dont know if this is related to the clutch problems??

anyone know if these were fitted with the dreaded dual mass flywheel?
