Blowing headlight bulb

I didn't think the auto headlamps were particularly over-active Mind you, there's a lot more sunshine here, and the tunnels are a tad longer, but then I have to have the damn things going all winter due to some battery manufacturer/government criminal tie in

They turn off as well...

Fings I know what does for headlamp blubs: user error, wobbly fittings, dodgy connections.

Nah the auto headlights on mine are fine, they don't come on early, in fact I sometimes think they could do with coming on a bit earlier. The ones on the wife's fucus however, they come on if a bird flies over!!

Yes,i dont find them over sencetive on mine either.But they will come on under certain bridges,tunnels,& low trees.And also after about 30 secs of cont wiper use(on auto wipers).
Where as on my other cars,you would`nt put them on under bridges etc,so there s more on/off use with the headlamps.
I`ve checked all connections,headlamp secure,dont touch the glass when fitting the bulb,cleaned earths etc.
All to no avail.
No that winters coming,i expect the bulb will go before xmas.

Thanks for the quick reply hammerman - I have ordered 2 new Osram Night Breaker H7 - £19.19 to see how they cope. Will keep you updated - I just fitted these to my other vehicle and have been well impressed.

In the meantime I switched the long beam bulb into my main beam for this evening's short trip out!

Headlamp bulbs?

Dont get me started....they're in the weekly check list for all 406's ask any cabbie!
Dip oil, (never drops)
Check water level,
Top up washer bottle ..again.
Change headlamp bulbs and whilst you're there the sidelamp bulbs also as they've blackened in
a couple of days too! I'm trying leds out at the mo.
Summers tolerable but winter nights. I always have to keep two spares in the glovebox,

LED sidelamp bulbs is that Tony? Where are you buying them from as I am deffo interested. I use LED stop lamp, reversing lamp, inside lamps and indicators on my VW camper but have not tried any on the D9. They should last a lot longer.

HI,
Ive tied them from ebay.
The best ones seem to be the 'refractor' type as they can be seen from all angles
as opposed to the ones which shine forward only.

Just type ''501 refractor led'' in the search and make sure you get the white ones.
They glow a bit blue anyway. Cost about £6 quid I think. Come from the far east but they do arrive.

I have the same problem. Yet another bulb has blown and always the nearside one. I was just thinking the other day it had lasted well and hey presto, bulb dies. Does anyone have a good fix for this? I probably get through three or four a year.

i have blown my left mistlamp like 20 times in the last year , i have given up on changing the bulbs, once it gets warmer again i will be taing out the mistlamp units and filling it with high power leds

Ok just thinking laterally here.....
Have you ever checked the opposing headlamp? Has that ever blown? Perhaps a poor earth on that etc?
Just I`m thinking when you see cars with a blown headlamp The working is like its on full beam even when dipped so maybe a poor connection on the working lamp is the cause of increased amps on the side that blows more often..

my mrs has a 2000 corsa had it 7 years and no proplems apart from bulbs which blow at about one a month.checked fueses,wires,earths,cleaned,done everything i can think of and it still does it[even swapped the alternator and battery of my mates while he went on holiday]sometimes headlights sometimes the rear no pattern apart from if the left light blows 9/10 the right one will blow next month.
small tip
get a halfords trade card and the bulbs only cost pennies

Yes another one gone on the nearside headlamp - following my last post on this discussion (9th Sep 09, 2009) one of my wonderful Osram Night Breakers has blown and it is now just 4 months since the changeover ... hmmmm ... I will try using an ordinary bulb for a bit and keep the Osrams set aside until the problem is solved.

I think I can probably guess just how nuts that's driving you I guess this is dipped beam so my only suggestion is to fit a relay, switched by the dip beam feed to run both lights straight off the battery. I realise this isn't ideal but, in the absence of anything else, this would tell you if it's physical to the bulbs (i.e. they're rattling about or something) or more to do with the supply (i.e. the voltage that's all over the shop)
