radiator fans

hi, could someone please tell me the simplist way to get 12v on to my fans to see if they run without having to strip them out of the engine the car is a 1.9td estate and has 2 cooling fans i think ive tried most things, cheers in advance for any help.

This question has actually been asked and answered twice this week ^^

Your cooling fans have sensors around the radiator, d/c these (with the power running) and your fans should fire up.

thanks, sorry i havnt been on here for a while due to work are there any photos etc of the location of these senors at all?

It's the coolant temperature sensor, which should be near the thermostat

Right, went out to test mine this arvo. On the 1.9 (and, according to HBOL, the 2.1) the sensor is clipped on just forward of the fuel filter housing.

I unplugged it and fired up the power, and both fans worked! The starboard one... well, it was a bit wobbly. Quite a bit, in fact. But never mind, so far I've never gotten it hot enough to actually require the fans...

again thanks for that i think i have tried unpuging this but nothing happened, i wondered if there was a very easy way to put 12v onto the fans to see if they spin because i think all the relays cut in and out etc . i wondered if there could be a bad earth or something.

There is, unplug the relays and shove a +ve feed towards the fan thusly. The only problem is I still can't remember which relay's which...

406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
