My d8 406 Progress Thread - Updated 4/10/09

Post by Leopold »

Hi all, Well as the previous careless owner must of loved posts etc  My front bumper had a few minor scrapes etc and my mate offered to do the repair if i purchased the stuff i.e Paint, wet n dry, Lacquer etc and today was the day that i went over to his house and we spent some time doing the repairs to the bumper :D And i am very happy with the results as you all will see below it isnt all finished yet, as gonna leave it roughly a week for it to properly harden and this time next weekend i will lightly go over it with 1200 grade Wet n dry and then go over it with some T-cut and then give it a polish. As you will also notice is that i have removed the black bumper trim as it was also scraped and was luckily able to buy a brand new set of ebay for a grand total of £9.99 which would have cost me £30 quid from Peugeots. Anyway, i have attached some pictures of the work and i will update with pictures next weekend when i have done the final finishes.

We also colour coded the door mirrors, with excellent results..and i am very happy.. :D

Here's a pic of it off the car, and ready to be fitted.

and heres a pic of it fitted to the car.

Always worth the effort :cheesy: How well did the touch-up match the original on a 10-year old car?

We did a cracking job there Leopold. We got lucky with the weather too - still and warm, but not so hot the paint was affected. Once you've done the final rubbing down and polishing that'll look like new.

I'm impressed with the paint match - it's a testament to the standard of work at the place you had it mixed, but also of how little the original paint has faded in 10 years. Result.

It was surprisingly kncackering too cos of the effort and stress in getting everything just so and making sure the lacquer coats were just right. I snoozed on the the sofa all afternoon after you went home!

That's a tasty, tidy motor and with the few mods and changes Lee has planned it's gonna go from above average to awesome in it's presentation.

I am very pleasantly suprised at how well the new and old paint colours have matched. Your efforts were very much appreciated and you have done a cracking job! I've think I have decided to colour code the door handles and I would like to get the plastic door trims cc'd aswell.

I'll take your offer regarding the CB :)

Right, Leo, I know you're doing the final rub down and polish tomorrow. Just remember, nice and fine grade, LOTS of water, just enough to feather in the new paint to the old and take the high spots off - no more.

Then follow up with Tcut, but keep stopping and wiping clean to see how you're doing.

Then a nice dose of your favourite wax.

Then, we'll need pics - it's the LAW!

Good luck.

4 different rattle cans in turbolags special recipe. Rub down, Plastic primer, rub down, hi build, rub down, colour and clear coats. Chuck in a dose of perfect weather (warm but not baking, perfectly still) and a handsome chap with loads of talent  and it's easy. Just take your time, prep well, and drink lots of coffee.

Once Lee's done the final rubbing and polishing, and put his spangly new bumper strips on, the old girl will look 5 years younger. It's a tasty little 406, and with it's fresh service and new timing belt is ready for another 100k miles, easily.

Very nice work, though I won't be attempting any kind of spraying unless I can get the car inside. I don't don't trust the weather in Southampton not to store up a gust of wind, ready to blow leaves at my freshly-painted panels >.<

Nice LX! T-Reg too - So last of the D8's!

Good job with the painting - It's all about the prep work and patience. Too many people go crazy with the spray cans and end up with drips or an uneven surface! You can come and do my front bar (which I had resprayed 2 years ago) which is now looking a bit sad due to stone chips! China Blue really does show them out!
