SRI Turbo Unit

Post by Xantiaman »

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the 406 turbocharger on the XU10j2TE unit is a combined turbo/manifold or is separate? My Xantia used a turbo with the manifold cast with the turbo which is a bit of a pain. The engine has to come out for some work so i am trying to find out if the 406 used this 2 piece arrangement which seems to be more robust?

There is a separate exhaust manifold and turbo on the 406. I'm shocked the Activa doesn't as I was under the impression it was pretty much exactly the same car with dodgy suspension and awful styling...

I'll rephrase that for you, distintive styling and far superior comfort and road holding

I think the early ones were the same as the 406. Later S2 models appear to have a plastic manifold, different throttle body and other minor changes, in fact it sounds different to an S1 Activa in note. I've just bought a 62k S2 Activa lump complete with turbo, box and new clutch to do a swop of the good bits and look into the turbo issue later.

To me it seems a backwards step to create an all in one set up, but maybe the manifold design changed slightly and improve boost response? Be handy if anyone has a good picture of turbo and manifold to compare.

For anyone interested, the engine i picked up has a two piece turbo and manifold. I'm not sure where the confusion came from, but its now looking unlikely that such a combined design existed (i was told different!)

Anyway, the turbocharger which is mint, is going to be the basis for some mods, basically a bigger compressor wheel. Results should be good!
