What Diesel?
Does anyone here know if the HDi90 benefits from the 'v-power diesel' or 'ultimate' diesels?
I know performance Turbo's, especially tuned ones benefits from the higher RON rating but what about diesels?
Is it ok to chuck in Tesco diesel or do these prefere Shell/Esso/BP fuels and are the 'super' diesels worth it on the HDi?

Re: What Diesel?
I once chucked in some super duper diesel by mistake. It did seem a little better out on the open road and needed less extra throttle to keep speed up hills and what not but the main advantage i found was that my car started a tiny bit quicker and that it smoked a lot less when it was cold or under hard acceleration at low engine speeds.
As a means to gain extra performance out of them, well, it does seem to make a tiny bit of difference BUT... i could of just been looking for that so could have been imagining it. But it certainly cut down smoke levels a little

Man: Right then, what do you think?
Woman: You're not seriously going to wear THAT are you?
Man: Well i did ask you!
woman: <sigh> Come on, let's go dress you PROPERLY...

Re: What Diesel?
I tried it in my HDi 110. It makes very little difference to performance and mpg.

Re: What Diesel?
The call it Eurodiesel here, the 2.1 runs much smoother and definitely pulls better on it but like GeordieBoy it makes burger all difference to my HDi

Re: What Diesel?
I tried V power a few times in my 110 and noticed it would be a touch quieter and maybe a little perkier on the throttle but there was now 'wow' at all

I have been using Tescos 99 ron petrol recently and have started 'paying at the pump' which is a bit weird but works well I have found. It is weird entering your PIN number before you've bought anything though

I haven't noticed any difference on my 2.1
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.

Re: What Diesel?
I know it's petrol and we're on about diesel here, but 5th gear did an interesting test the other week comparing supermarket crap with ultimate and v-power in 3 cars on a rolling road. Turned out to have no effect on a basic <90bhp 1.8 engine, something like 10bhp extra in a 150bhp car and about 25bhp in an impreza sti
v-power came out on top, but bp ultimate wasn't far off the pace
Mirrors what I've been saying - ultimate produced better economy in my 150bhp tubby, but not enough to be worth the money, but my V6s have been much better on the stuff, and v-power got me 707 miles to a tank!
