Wheel bearing

Post by richteex »

Hi All,

Got a whinning coming from rear passenger side, think maybe a wheel bearing needs replacing. Is this an easy job to do myself or is it a garage jobbie........ if its fairly easy some instructions would be a big help.

Cheers

Whining? DOn't think that's the brake rubbing on the backplate somehow. Umm, been over this a few times so have a search for more detail. Haynes says you need a puller but half the time the hub seems to fall off, however you won't know until you start. You'll also need access to a large size torque wrench. Don't go to Pug for a new hub (when I say hub, this also contains the bearing and the teeth for the abs sensor all in one big expensive lump) do the ebay thing. You're also looking for a 48-tooth hub, rather than the 29-tooth hub for a D8 (I presume your car has disks on the back, as well as abs).

If it's a rear it's probably a bent or corroded backplate.

Never rule out the tyres making noises! a tyre can do a very good impression of a worn wheel bearing :|
