Did you park them in the straight up position? Much easier to do the driver's one then

Are the later multiplexed 406s like the 407, 307, 207, 308, etc, in that if you dab the wiper stalk downwards within 30 seconds of switching off the ignition it parks the wipers in the vertical position so you can fit new ones?

Oooh I never tried that, I usually just switch the ignition off when they're at the top.

Hang on......

I think my wiper arms must be u.s. as they wont lift more than an inch. The bonnet was not an issue as the arms wouldnt even reach that far up!
Thanks for the help anyway chaps. :)
N.B. I replaced the horizontal stab links at the back and it feels totally different to drive now.No more bouncing side ways when going over bumps.I highly recommend changing yours if the handling seems a little vague.
Right so whats next? Squeek comming from headlining...............?

Right, I might have dreamed this but didn't someone put a post on some months back about swapping the arms and blades for "proper" flat ones by using compatible sized ones from other vehicles..... :?

At least you know your wiper arms are almost certainly in the right place... From what I can tell, changing the pollen filter on a VAG car requires removing the drivers wiper arm... with the result being a loud CLUNK every time the wiper hits the edge of the windscreen because it wasn't repositioned correctly...

Bosch Aerotwin FTW!

They are awesome, considering we have had 50mm of rain within 12hrs in Sydney! I forget the lengths, but the drivers side blade was off a Zafira!

I should really think about a wiper arm transplant. So how many arms actually match the 406's splines? (I'm presuming it's a splined linkage)
