Just purchased my first 406 estate, to be used as a work horse really.
2000 w 1.8lx estate with 156k on clock.
Are these petrol engines good for the mileage?

If it's regularly serviced you'll probably see 300K+, check when the timing belt was changed though!

The 406 petrol engine is quite a surprising well kept secret beavering away without any fuss, and never really giving any trouble. High mileages are easily achieved, it's not the most powerfull the 1.8 but driven steadily you should get over 30 mpg.
To be honest it'll be a far easier owning experience than it's Diesel counterpart of the same age
