underside cover... coming loose?

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

underside cover... coming loose?

Post by sockpuppet »

hi

the underside cover where the engine is has come off on one side and is hanging down. i think ive done some offroading at some point and its pulled one of the screws out. does anybody know what part i need to get a replacement because the cover is just hanging off on one side at the moment. my mechanic friend said take it off entirely but its obviously there to do a job so id rather keep it on for protecting the bottom of the engine.

so yeah, does anybody have any spares they want to sell or anything like that? dunno what the part is even called, obviously its not an engine cover because thats the... engine cover.

hmmm

Neither of mine left the factory with one. The common fix seems to be cable ties...

They aren't screws, not on mine anyway, they're those funny fittings that you turn 90deg and then pull out, then when you put them back you just make sure they're orientated correctly and push them in and they kinda ratchet into place.... :?

If the retaining bit is still there you should be able to aquire the "screw" bit from a scrappy with just a coin  , alternatively you could try the main dealers....

I took all of my orignal fixings off as most of them were corroded and kept working loose, replaced them all with a cable tie, been fine ever since. Just remember to have 4 x new cable ties handy when you next service the car.

My old 306 hdi was the same as well. LOL

You can get them from the dealers (and the captive nut type thing that attaches to the undertray itself) for pennies. I had to get 2 for my 407 and came away with change from £2.

The bolts rust and the captive nuts rust even worse.

Cable ties is the only sane way to hold on an undertray. Just wish I could use them for the wheelarch liners too

might give it a try with cable ties then. if undertray's what its called and i can get the bolts for cheap (hello, eBay) then ill do that, because i cant be bothered to jack it up to tie cable ties on, and lying on the floor to get under it in this weather isnt an option!

haha, thats exactly why i want to get mine sorted. theyre £6 for a pack of TEN on ebay, which is annoying but my only option i fear. i phoned my local peugeot dealership, went through to parts dept and was told that theyd have to be ordered and would be at least £15 for a pack of 4

err, no.

You seem to have an issue with wheelarch liners  . Even on a clutch change job, this seems to be the most annoying part of it! Yeah, they were a bit of a pain on a D8 but not too bad. On D9 they replaced the screws with pop out plastic nut jobbies that pop out.

Too bloody right! That's even after I bought a whole load of new screws and washers for them!

Not on mine they didn't  You mean the little rivet thingies like the jobbies that hold the boot lining on? Could definitely see a new 406 modification here!!!

Back on topic though, even if I had a '6 with brand new undertray bolts I'd still rip 'em out and use cable ties. So much quicker and easier, and you KNOW they won't rust
