No 408!

Post by mjb »

Seems like there's not going to be a Peugeot 408 or 608... they're going with a 508 instead

Google it and check out the images. The concept drawings look SWEET, and if the new RCZ is anything to go by, I'm looking forward to seeing the final result! Just hope they put a nice big engine in it
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I wish they'd make up their bleeding mind - I'm holding on for the 407 replacement (I'm a saddo and want to be the 1st!), and don't care what they call it, I just want them to pull their finger our and build it.

I stuck 508 in Giggle and got

Then I put Peugeot in front of it and got

"I eat traffic wardens!"

There's loads of concepts that the 508 could be/might not be based on, hopefully whatever they settle on will have less of the current range's, umm, problem.

The 405 is a cardigan?

I don't mind the looks of the 407 tbh, when I first saw a SW at the dealers I was just thinking "yeah!!", then I opened the boot... What I don't like is the way the grille has become everything, so most of the current Pug range just looks daft.

I gotta agree really. The whole corporate face of the moment doesn't combine well with pedestrian safety regs and is a mess. The 207s ok, and the 308 just about gets away with it (it's better in the flesh), but the 3008 looks like a dilated sphincter.

Interestingly the 508 'Crossover' version has been announced, but they are keeping the name secret - probably because the chumps have already used the 5008 name on a people carrier, so there'll be no consistency at all in the '00' range with the 3008, 4007, 5008 and the new car all being totally different types. and why would anyone want a slightly larger Crossover anyway? They want bigger, they tend to be able to afford a proper people mover, or a proper off roader.

They should go back to giving them names, like "Javelin" and "Missile". TBH, I always thought "Rapier" would've been a tidy name for the 406 as a model, not just a trim.

PS, SP Grille is much nicer than the strips Tremmers!!! you must know that by now!

I think Peugeot have leant all their designers to Citroen for the last few years.
2007 Mondeo Titanium X 2.0 TDCi
2007 307cc Sport 2.0 HDi 136
Gone but never forgotten: 2002 406 Coupe SE 2.2 HDi

Could be worse, could have borrowed Audi's
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I heard that Peugeot's designer has been off on long term sick, there was some mix up with his statutory sick pay too :(
