Hello,
I have a Peugeot 406 from 2002.
I've wanted to have my own music in my car for a long time. I bought an aux-in adapter for the Clarion PU-2184A radio in my car which didn't work, and I sent it back. Now I'm interested in buying a good head-unit and don't want to make any more bad decisions, so I'm posting here for confirmation and advice.
My requirements for the head unit are:
Aux-In support
Steering wheel controls support
MP3 CD (are there any which support DVD?)
I would also like:
Bluetooth support (pick up phone calls handsfree)
USB (to read music from Mass Storage Devices)
Entire system cost <85 pounds
There's a guy in my town that's selling fascia (or facia?) adapters for the equivalent of 17 pounds, who would install it for another 17 pounds, but I think it's a bit expensive. I found this site: http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitt ... ot/406.htm where a regular fascia+adapter pack would be 13 pounds, and the fascia+steering-control-compatible adapter+stereo-specific-adapter-jack pack would be 45 pounds. Are these okay, and will they work in my car?
Regarding the head unit, I haven't started investigating the market yet, but I will post my findings when I do.
Please comment. Do you have any cheaper/better suggestion?
Thanks,
Adi

Re: Replacement head unit
I wouldn't bother with the wiring adapter. It's more or less plug and play.
The only thing to be aware of is if you have a JBL system, which means that you need to rewire your speakers as the factory HU is sending pre-amp signal to the amp in the boot via a standard speaker harness. You don't wanna be sending a high level signal to the amp! If you don't, then all you really need is the fascia adapter.
As for the choice of HU - it's really down to you. Sony's are pretty well specced but I swear by Alpines for the sound quality. Sony even does an adapter to the Pug display! Pretty much every other make has adapters to use your steering wheel controls with it.
