What spare wheel?

Post by Meldrew »

My son recently bought a 1999 saloon Hdi with alloy wheels, nice car.

Problem when he found no spare wheel, [he should have checked before buying].

Can anybody advise what sort of spare was supplied when new? was it a 5th alloy, a steel wheel, or a space saver? would the nuts from the alloys suit the spare?

Wheel size is 205/60/r15.

Oops! I'm not really sure, could be a steel or a space saver. If it still has the polystyrene holder for the jack etc. then it matters 'cos they're different. Post or pm me the chassis number and I'll have a squint.

Some models also had alloy spares. My tubby estate and V6 saloon did, but the coupe has a steel

My saloon has a full-size (15in) steel rim in the spare-wheel well, with a normal tyre on it, below the boot liner (and polystyrene bit with all the tools), just as it was when the car was new.

Mine had a steel spare (full size) but I sourced a matching alloy on ebay, so the steel one's in my garage :P

Also, beware if purchasing a spare wheel, that there is at least one style of 15" alloy that looks cosmetically the same but is available in two different widths (6 and 6.5").

You sure about the size? the 1999 should be 195 x 65 x 15 as standard they only started using 205's in 2003 when they introduced the 16" wheel on the 406. My exec model came with a black steel full size spare but other people on here got alloys. I think it's a game of car dealer swap-a-spare between stock etc.

Nah, the type of spare's listed on servicebox and my cars were indeed alloy, alloy, steel from the factory... dad's d8 also has an alloy.

Wonder if it's a d8/d9 thing?

Standard full size alloy spare on mine (98 Executive). It seems to be the later cars which have the steels, so possibly some sort of cost cutting at Peugeot HQ?

My 1998 has 205/65 R15 on 6.5" alloys - they're mentioned in the handbook too. Or are you talking about HDis specifically?
