Light on dash

Post by matoakwell »

Hi guys, just a quick question I need confirming. I noticed this evening whilst on my way home that when I press the brake pedal on my 2003 hdi 90 S, a light on the dash illuminates and then goes out when I release the brake pedal. Im guessing this is telling me that eithe my discs or pads or both are ready for changing. I'd just like confirmation if I'm correct or if not what it means. The light is a circle with 3 little lines round both sides.

Thanks in advance

Mat

Defo low front brake pads. There will still be plenty of pad left, but the light will show more as they wear down, untill the contacts wear through, then the light wont come on.

Have a feel of the discs - if there's a large lip at the edge, you'll be wanting to replace them too as it's an MOT fail point.

Have a look on http://www.eurocarparts.com or http://www.gsfcarparts.com for prices. Don't go to the dealers as they'll charge about 3x the price

are these no good?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

found Mintex ones too like you recommended: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mintex-Front-Disc ... 5638d36b08

is it going to make a difference, because obviously the Mintex ones are double the price when you include postage and such, and im on a student budget. i have no idea what type of brakes i have already so i dont know what size or anything to get.

all i know is its a 2003 rapier 90 with 15" wheels

Only once I ever bought cheap brake disks, they were shyte! The choice is yours mate but mintex are just about the best you can get, I wouldn't skimp on brakes personally.

The pads on their own would cost you about £50 at the dealer btw  .

That seller for the mintex ones is the guy I used too :)

and you'd say your brakes are decent? ive never had to replace them before, being a student ive never owned a car long enough until now.

will wait and see whether my girlfriends brother (a mechanic) thinks i need to get the pads and discs done or just the pads.

I've never had a problem with cheap Lucas discs and pads.
