HDi 90 Crankshaft Pulley & Bottom Engine Mount

This is the start of my quest to get my Peugeot in tip top conditon within the next 5-6 months.

I'm going to get a garage to replace the crankshaft pulley & bottom engine mount.

I have been quoted so far the following;

Lower Engine Mount around £19-00 (if it comes with the housing it is around £65-00)
labour is around £60-£80 for fitting .

The crankshaft pulley is £105-00 plus vat So about £125 (Im hoping fitted, but doubt it, Probably another 1hr labour) Im awaiting another email for clarification on the above.

How does that sound?

The engine mount is a sh*t of a job so £60-80 for a couple of hours is about right. You'd never really get this done on your drive.

The crank pulley needs the wheel off, arch liners out, (and a new aux belt is recommended, about another £20?) and would probably take 1-2 hours?

Always go genuine with the crank pulleys @ about £120.00. I've heard the cheapo pattern part ones don't last as long.

There is some apparant 'From the OEM suppplier' etc on eBay for about £60-70 delivered. Not sure though. Atleast if they get the part in then it will fit etc

I think if those costs are about right then ill give them a nod and get it booked in.

Engine mount because the exhaust is blowing so atleast if the mount is fixed I can sort the exhaust in the coming months and not put extra stress on it.

That's the thing with cars.......if you don't fix 'A' then 'B' will get worse etc etc........

I left (well didn't realise about) my lower mount for so long the intercooler hose blew by rubbing on the radiator bracket at the front (110bhp)

Just had another garage quote

To replace the crankshaft pulley the cost of this repair is £168.79inc Vat parts and labour

Its working out more expensive then I thought

According to a flyer I got today from Peugeot, the retail price for a HDi pulley is £91-89 +vat, obviously fitting is extra.

Bruce, you could do this job yourself, it isn't that difficult, myself and several others could guide you through it, you need a 15mm spanner, a pin to go in the fan belt tensioner to hold the tensioner off whilst the belt is removed (I use a small allen key), a 22mm socket with a breaker bar or 1/2 inch drive ratchet and a bit of pipe to go over the end to extend it, not forgetting a torx screwdriver for the wheel arch liner screws and a flat blade screwdriver to remove the plastic clips in the liner.

Is your lower engine mount really worn out? It doesn't always follow that the flexi has broken because the mount is worn.The flexi is there to allow the engine to move.

When I replaced the Engine oil I could the mount had split this the actual pin going through it had free movement within the hole of the bush etc - Its pretty knackered.

Im not sure where exactly the exhaust is leaking from, but I can smell exhaust fumes on start up and it also making a farting noise when accelerating hard, deffinately sounds like somewhere near the front.

I am tempted to do the crankshaft pulley but knowing my luck I wont be able to remove the nut!

I promise you that if you follow my instructions you will not fail to undo the crankshaft pulley bolt.

I could also walk you through replacing the lower mount if you could have the confidence to tackle the job, but it might be best to take it into the garage.

My dad (ex-mechanic) said his bottom mount on his 106 also looked like a pain to do, so all he's done is unbolt the pin holding the engine to the mount, and stuffed the bush with a load of no-nails stuff. Let it settle and put the pin back in. Apparently, as good as new and it has lasted him a few years already.

Just an idea for a temp fix...

Well its booked in Saturday for the crank pulley and there going to take a look at the bush too.

Then its just

Front Brakes (Discs & Pads)
Exhaust
ROS Light Cluster
Front Drop Links

Those are for the MOT.

Then, for my peice of mind the Timing Belt Kit & Water Pump.

Things are starting to look up for the old girl lol

They didn't do the lower engine mount though.

£135, pretty pleased with that

They just didn't mention it, think the guy who I booked it with wasn't in so I think the booking was un-exspected lol. They can do them though, I'll get them to do it next month
