Dashboard looks like a xmas tree

Post by alibar71 »

Hi there people, newbie here looking for a bit of info/help. Just bought my 3rd 406 & it needs some tlc. The problem is that the dashboard & MFD is lit up like a xmas tree with allsorts of lights n info which I will list below:

MFD tells me its in economy mode, it has an abs fault & a braking fault
DASH tells me abs fault, low brake fluid, engine management light is on, rev needle flickers, mileage goes from 202,500 to 000,000, STOP light flashes, hazard switch stays lit, hazard lights intermittently flash & the drivers electric window puts itself down now & then oh & this is without the key in the ignition.

Where do I begin??? It's a 99 2.0HDI (90)

Any info would be appreciated

Sounds very much a fried BSI, which ain't cheap to replace.

First of all though check for dampness around the footwell as there's a sensitive connector under there

Must also state that I put a new alternator in it on Sunday. Old one had 11 amps going in & nothing coming out & when the old one was in, the indicators didn't work nor did the wipers & the headlights weren't very bright also the heating & climate control didn't work & all the other symptoms, now with the new alternator in heating & climate works as do the lights, indicators & wipers do but same prob with dash, keys in or out ignition.

Checked the footwell & lo n behold 2" of nice clean water, both black & white connectors are rotting along with most of the wires and a red & white wire from the thick black cable have come out of a connector, so looks like I've a lot of cutting tomorrow. Ho Hum
