Exhaust

Post by mjh »

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone else on this site has a 406 saloon SRI 2.2litre 4 cylinder petrol year 2000.I am currently looking for a back box and or mid section exhaust. The patent has not been released via Peugeot so the only alternative is manufacturer or stainless, option both of which are rather expensive.Be happy to hear from anyone else who has this rather illusive model.

Thanks mjh

A bit of digging around, and officially the back box is unique to the 2.2 saloon (part 1726SC). The centre section however, you can use from a saloon, estate or coupe with either the 2.2 engine or the later 210BHP V6 (ES9J4S) as they all use the same part (1717J2)

If the centre section's the same then I can't see why the ES9J4S saloon back box won't be fine. I imagine the factory difference would just be down to small position changes in the internal layout for noise reduction
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Thats interesting to know as I have the 2.2 sri estate. A great car but I do wish I had got a diesel, estate or even a saloon as things like exhausts are expensive for this model. Keep thinking of selling and getting a diesel but the petrols dont seem to sell as easy and it's mint.

Good luck getting your exhaust sorted.

Thanks for the info mjb when i was at the exhaust centre they did pop out and return with the exhaust fron the diesel model to offer it up as an alternative but the bore of my 2.2 was larger so was not an alternative.I will ask on sat back at the centre to see what the score is on the mid section alternative you suggested.
Just for reference and other owners of the 2.2 no Haynes Manual covers the 2.2 engine but i found a chap on ebay who i can only presume is an ex mechanic at Peugoet I brought a workshop manual covering 95-03 on cd for £6.00 including postage bargain i would say as long as you have a pc.

I have teh mid and rear sections from my scrapped Pug 406 2.0 Turbo Petrol. Might be the same? Can take pics for you. The one section is only 2 months old - only fitted recently. PM me if interested.
