what is display next to hazard warning switch on d8

hello all can anyone tell me what the display next to hazard switch is , i spoke to someone about it before and i thought it was just a blank where a display should be , was sat today bored and decided to flip it out with flatblade and sure enough there is a box behind with circutry and a bulb thats blown , lookin forward to seeing what it is .

It'll be the exterior temperature sensor. Nice toy, tells you how bloody cold it is and how much of a bitch your car will be to start :)

Actually, chances are it's a trip computer. If there's two rows of connector pins on the back of it, it is.

If you've got a Bosch engine ECU, you can retro-fit trip computer functionality - see the huge thread in this forum for details.
