BSI and Mileage

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

BSI and Mileage

Post by Matt »

I swapped by BSI and ECU and key chip over a little while ago to install cruise control, which is great, but by doing this it added almost 200K miles to the clock, which isnt accurate, my car has only done just over 100k

if i swapped all that stuff back would my mileage revert back to the correct amount or will it add it on again?

I believe a copy of the mileage is stored in the clock & another in the BSI. It should copy BSI > clock, when it detects they don't match, but for some, (French), reason it adds them together, (which would be OK if it was a new clock).

If you've got the patience, I guess you could keep swapping 'til it goes back round to something like 100K

You would be risking damaging the BSI and ECU doing that...

hmmmn, I've got my MOT due at the start of feb, i dont want the wrong mileage recorded on the certificate, so i may try the swapping over method and see if it corrects it, provided they are not programmed to display an error message after 99999999 miles :|

It wasn't meant as a serious suggestion - I have no idea what happens after 999,999 :supafrisk:

One pug I nearly bought mysteriously changed itself from 80,000 to 240,000 one night. Taking this with a fairly big pinch of salt, I did some googling & discovered it's not unheard of. Some V6's have done it too. Pug tech insists its due to using the wrong spark plugs.....
Don't know if they have an explanation for diesels.

hey, it will be a nice Idea if you could change it again and again, until the miles show 999.999 and we can see what will display after that? a new milleage? count from 000.000????

anyone have tried it??? it sounds very interesting

Hi Mate, may be easier to simply take the car to one of the mileage correction guys who will be able to correct both the BSI and the clock mileage for you. If the BSI data stored is higher than the clock youre fitting then they wont match up properly as the other guy said.....
