Holidaying in south wales

Well guys wheres to visit and whats best to see and do in south wales/wales in general?
we gonna be staying somewhere in wales this summer for our holiday...........2 weeks in our caravan..............so whats to see and do?il

Come on Dai and Neil and any other Welsh members sell your country to me,we like stately homes,countryside,seaside and just general nice things

so whats your top tips,and more important wheres best to avoid

Right Tremmy there's obviously the 2 national parks in South Wales, Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast, plenty to see and do there. There are some lovely beaches all around the south west and up the west coast. The valleys particularly are draped in industrial history, mining, steel, first ever steam locomotive, etc. I still reckon Cardiff is one of the nicest cities in the UK, and Cardiff Bay is worth a visit too. Loads of castles, country parks, museums etc...

we will be based somewhere and usually travel about 100 miles in either direction from base for our days out,and we only got one kid left a 13yr boy.
As for the castles and such this may be a really stupid question but are any of them National Trust as we are members and get in free

whats he been doing??he hasnt washed your car again has he i still chuckle about "that" photo

and our 13yr old is no bother hes the last of four so we had loads of practice with the others

Yeah there's quite a bit of National Trust stuff in Wales, here ya go.

Bear in mind though that most of the museums and stuff are free anyway... Oooh that reminds me, from what you've been saying I reckon you'd really enjoy St Fagans National History Museum (or as we like to call it Amgueddfa Werin Cymru Sain Fagan), three quid to park but free entry, it's a good day out!

D'ya reckon I'll get the job with the Welsh Tourist Board??

I love South Wales, fabulous scenery and great people.I've visited the Rhondda many times and I love the drive over the Heads of the Valleys road (A465), then over the A4061 to Treherbert and Treorchy, down the valley to LLwynpia where I used to go to the Wales Field Archery Champs or the All British Champs at the Archery Centre at LLwynpia.There is a Mining Heritage Centre not far away.
I love Cardiff as well, been a few times, great people, very friendly.If you have an interest in sport, take a tour of the Millennium Stadium, superb stadium.Cardiff Castle is more or less next door.

You can't beat the beaches on the coast, Tenby is great, as are all the coastal areas.

One tip for you.....book your caravan site/sites in plenty of time, they get pretty full at main holiday times, especially near the coast.

For staying, I'd recommend West Wales, either Tenby or New Quay area. Plenty of nice campsites to pick from. Also, the Gower is a nice area and littered with camp sites.

And if you're willing to travel 100 miles to your day trip destinations, you'll have plenty of places to visit.

Oakwood Park theme park
Folly Farm (probably not for 14 year olds though)
Big Pit
St Fagan's
Cyfarthfa Castle & museum
