My radio wont switch off

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My radio wont switch off

Post by bbdom44 »

Can anyone help me ... either a simple solution or how I get to switch it off by pulling the fuse. The car is a yr 2000 peugeot 406 hdi diesel. The display no longer displays the radio station or related information, the control trigger on the steering wheel no longer works and the car wont even switch the radio off automatically as it used to do after 30 mins.

Thanks in advance

I cant offer any advice on how to fix it permanantly Im afraid. My 406 has done this on a couple of occasions aswell, restarting the car and switching the radio off manually and then switching the car off worked for me... Tad embarassing if you have passengers on board.lol

The dial on my radio appears to be completely knackered, it dosent alter the volume and you cannot turn the radio off with it. Luckily the steering wheel switch works perfectly so all I do is turn it down to 0 whenever I need to pretend it is turned off!

My bro's Zafira turns the stereo on every time he starts the engine, even if it was off when you killed the car last. It's done it from new but Vauxhall can't find a fault...

The on/off volume switch on my D9 was dirty, looked like someone had gone nuts with the back to black or something. I didn't find that out until I gave it a belt after it failing to turn off for the nth time and cracked the circuit board  (still hoping for a replacement :( )

ahhhh right

my d9 has started doing this

probably once in about 40 uses of the car

i can change channels etc, turn voulume up down but cant turn it off (the screen is also frozen)

if it does this is find when i come to start the car up next time it kinda cuts the power to the radio then it all goes back to normal. I wouldnt worry, when it happens to me i just turn the volume down and leave it on over night, doesnt drain my battery

next morning when i turn it on it all goes back to normal

im going to undo the battery one day for 30 mins to see if that does the trick
