Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

306 estate speaker advice

Post by supafrisk »

Yes, I know, I know.. it's not a 406
But I noticed after getting the 306 back after loaning it out that the reason the sound system sounds a lot more pants than the 406.
Yes, I know it is going to after being spoiled with surround sound JBL system, but after twiddling a few knobs I deduced there's only sound coming out of the front speakers. Are the rears located in the tailgate, as there are no cutouts on the doorcards of the back doors for any others and how would I go about testing them? Also there's an exec in the scrappers here with an intact JBL system (not my 406 I might add) and I am tempted to have the speakers and amp out of it but I'm not sure how it all hooks up. Although the stereo in the 306 is a phillips and the 406 is a clarion, they both have the same 6 cd interchanger, as I have already compared my 406 and 306 one and they are identical. Any ideas guys?

*Fiddles with moderator control panel...

Service Box only shows speaker locations for the saloon and, as far as eye can recall yours is an estate :( They're not where the 406 estates are, in the panel to the side of the tailgate? If they're like the 406 ones it's no surprise you don't think they're working :frown:

Agree with omega here... the 206s and 306s aren't made to deliver anywhere near the quality of a drive in a 406, so I'd be tempted to guess the car's only got 2 speakers!

First thing to check I guess would be the speaker ISO plug on the back of the stereo... see if it's got 4 or 8 wires in it!

The missus 306 estate has 4 speakers, with 2 located in the tailgate like Supafrisk has said. Not uprated them as the missus doesn't use it that much and isn't really bothered.

Could be a loose wire - I just recalled that when the battery went flat and I lost the radio code, a fitter from the main stealer had to come out and pull the stereo out to get the codes off it, it took him half an hour
