hello everyone,
I have noticed a big problem with the performance of my 1998 406 executive turbo (120'000 miles)and it started just today. I've had a dramatic loss of power and i have also noticed that i don't have 'pssst' noise from my dump valve. It was driving ok, almost just like a normal car(with no turbo) which is lame!!! i had a good look around the engine bay when i got home and didn't see any obvious problems. the dump valve is open on tick over and before i could feel air pressure, now there is no air pressure from the dump valve. is there anything in particular i should be investigating? is it advisable to drive it still?
Probably turbo seized, same thing happened to mine at about same mileage, take off the inlet pipe diectly on the turbo and see if you can turn the compressor wheel. I found on mine that the turbo oil feed was restricted, probably down to a build up of depsoits in the line, I had a new braided line made up. regular servicing and correct warming up and cooling down is essential on any turbo engine for a long service life and performance.

hello,
well i took off the inlet and the turbo is seized completly. so what was the rest of the story on your 406? did you get it repaired at the garage? i have heard its an expensive repair any idea what kinda price i should be seeing for a new/reconditioned turbo? i thinking i going to do it myself.
after searching for ages, i found one on here from a member. there is a re con turbo on ebay right now with uprated bearings etc, I spent a cold morning doing mine, but pulled the head off and did water pump, cambelt and tensioner and changed the aux idler pulley while i was in there. DP Engineering are doing a braided oil feed line for about £95

well that was a result alot of work but done so much in one go, fair play. bet it made things a lot easier for getting at the turbo it was a pig just to get that inlet hose off! but wow, really £95 for a pipe well i guess its essential. do you think its worth uprating the turbo? i would look on ebay for reconditioned or even salvage but i dont really know which type i need untill i get the turbo off and get the p/n. don't suppose you would know which turbo it is i.e serial code or something of any relevance?
