after changing the pollen filter, flushing the cooling system and fitting new o/e thermostat, and bleeding the cooling system a few times. the car heater doesn't blow hot, hot, even after a long journey. i know the actual running temperature is a bit tempramental, but the car doesn't run hotter than 90 degs
also, for some reason i can't get the blowers to blow on the windcreen for demisting, which is a bit of a pain
Hold on, '96 executive something so probably climate control. I don't think that would be something to do with the cooling system, more to do with the controls - either dead motors or stripped gears. It could just be dodgy connectors. I presume this is why you bled it rather than it happening after?
Can you hear the control flap swinging about? Maybe it's jammed or perhaps just the ducts are off - does it blow from anywhere when it's meant to be blowing the screen?
I'm not sure how the heat is controlled on these, I don't think there's a valve on the matrix, I think it's another flap. With another tiny motor. Or it could be something to do with the cabin sensor (overhead console).
All I can add is that the coolant system is linked directly to the heater. Heaters run off the water. I have a feeling something wasnt put back correctly when the system was flushed.

i'm not a novice on cars, so i very much doubt i've missed anything. unless it wasn't there to start with

Sorry mate, we get all levels of expertise on here - personally, give me a set of points and a carb and I'm fine but all these bleedin' electronics - pfft
i've had the o/s of the car in the air. i've also extended the feed into the header tank.
undone the cap on pipe on matrix pipe and let coolant flow. then undone the cap at top of engine. did exactly the same, so refitted once no more air came through.
made sure header tank full. replaced cap and ran engine till warm and thermostat opens
I think it's possible to see if the pipes going in and out of the matrix are hot (mind your hand on the engine tho!!) to see if there's any sort of blockage. As before, I've no idea how it works but I don't think there's any sort of valve on it. Not that I can see in the parts diagrams anyway. Have a squint. You're looking at section 6 btw. There is this "reduction gear" but it seems to be something to do with recirculation flap. There should be motors for the other flaps but I can't see them on there. Unless one motor runs everything but that would be silly.
If there are definitely no airlocks are you sure the water pump is ok?
There could be partial damage to the impeller so it's not efficiently getting the coolant round the system?
I can't think of any other causes if you're sure the new 'stat is ok

well my next job to do is change the cambelt, so will change the water pump aswell
i have also noticed that the direction buttons on the heater don't seem to work, as the demist does't work and i can't get air to blow at my feet. i only seem to get blasting air from chest height
When you redirect the airflow on the climate control unit can you hear a motor?
