i would like to make the road light up a bit better in the dark woth my 2.2 sri estate.
what options do i have? i know my stuff about HIDs and mots and quite frankly is rubbish. self levelers and headlight washers are NOT needed - i know cos i put HIDs on my 20 year old bmw with the headlight washers REMOVED and it passed its mot fine.
are HIDs really the best thoguh? are the headlighte refelctors good enough?
what headlight bulbs are best?

Without fail the Phillips Extreme Power bulb is the best 'replacement/upgrade' bulb.
I don't think you'd need to go HID with the Phillips bulbs and the 406's reflector headlights are brill!!
Have a looky here...viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6301&start=0&hilit=phillips+extreme
I am struggling with the Projector lenses on my Volvo (even with the Phillips H7's) as the projector just can't get the beam out on the road......this subject has been beaten to death on the Volvo forum regards legality etc. but most agreed that should your insurance need any excuse to back out of a claim then they will find one
I've done a lot of research about HID's and (without getting into a long argument) then basically if you have a reflector lens then it's a bit unfair on other road users and if you want to be picky the lens wasn't designed to run with a HID light source and if your insurers want to be picky they may void your policy.
The trick with HID's is not to go for anything over 5000K as they will look too blue and attract unwanted attention.
