20.1 MPG
hello all,
my 2.0 auto petrol estate is only doing 20.1 mpg i done all the calculations myself I'm only getting 80 miles on 20 quid is there any obvious reason why it may be only doing this, I'm getting very very sick of this car being a constant pain in the arse so if its not a cheap fix its going on auto trader lol thanks for all your help

Re: 20.1 MPG
The constant cold weather is the cause, and the slushmatic box.
What sort of driving? all door to door in town?

hi Welly,
i was thinking i8t may be the cold weather but i wasnt sure and i know the box drinks more than manual but claimed mpg around town is nearing 30mpg i dont expect to get that as the car has done 108,000 but i didnt think it would loose 10 mpg its not door to door i go 4 miles to work and 4 miles back and at weekends i usually stretch her legs but even on a long trip say to southend it will still only manage about 25 mpg on a run if thats what i can expect i might as well go and get a V6 coupe

There's your problem, the engine is probably still running rich fuelling when you arrive at work!peugeot406rapier wrote:i go 4 miles to work and 4 miles back
In my HDi, at my old place, I was doing the same 4 miles there and 4 miles back and that would get me 33mpg which is crap for a HDi.
If you drove a V6 like this you'd get about 15 mpg in fact that's why I got the HDi cos I was previously running a V6 Mazda MX6 and getting 17mpg - that was seriously pissing me off (especially as the car was a woolly squidgy piece of sheet).
Make sure you run the tyres at 33PSi, have a new clean air filter, turn the a/c off and hope that the warmer weather will improve things.

Re: 20.1 MPG
now youve got me worried Ive never checked my mpg properly
Have noticed its a bit higher during the cold weather judging by the fuel guage on similar usage when warm weather

Re: 20.1 MPG
My Hdi mpg has dropped like a stone since i started my new job 5 miles from home. Day to day its showing 35 ish mpg, whereas before on my 60 mile commute it was averaging 55 mpg.
Still, at least im home in 10 minutes instead of an hour and a half! LOL

Re: 20.1 MPG
I'm having to drive like a nun to keep mine above 30 in this cold weather, generally 10 - 15 miles each trip so just as it's getting properly warmed up I'm turning it off
. Plus changes to routines recently (due to unwell relatives) mean a few more shorter "around town" trips.
My wife's focus rarely goes more that 2 miles in any one journey and thats down to about 25 at the moment.

Re: 20.1 MPG
My 1.8 dropped to below 40mpg :0 and just below 600 miles a tank over the cold weather.

Re: 20.1 MPG
well ive done some investigating and around town they are only expected 22mpg so its not too bad but i think a good service should improve things slightly i just am still staggered by my 1.8 manual it uses hardly any fuel whatsoever its fantastic! i know the short journeys dont help i was just shocked by 20mpg it took me back a bit but hey what can you do?
just going to carry on and hope a bloody good service will give me a slight lift on MPG

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
