2000(W) 406 Rapier, front fogs & indicator stalk

Post by rfx »

Dear all,

I'm confused.

I bought a 2000(W) 406 Rapier 90HDI saloon a couple of months ago. Where the front foglights should be, there appears to be a clear lens. Looking at other 406s of about the same age driving around my town I see some of them have the plastic "blanking plates" there. I was therefore thinking my car must have front fogs.

However...

My indicator stalk doesn't have a setting for front fogs - only rear. More confusingly, however, is the indicator stalk has a button on the end with a picture of a horn BUT my horn is activated by the centre of the steering wheel and the button at the end of the indicator stalk does nothing...

Is it possible I do actually have front fogs but for some funky reason my car's original indicator stalk has been replaced with one off another car that isn't quite right for mine?....

On a slightly related note, I've been looking around the Web for ages to try and find a spec list for the Rapier but can't find one. Was the Rapier a short-run model or something? I see lots more references to things like GLXs, but not much about Rapiers... I'm just interested in how my 406 compares to other 406s in the range. Entry level? Middle of the range? Something like that...

All comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean.

Think there's a good chance someone has replaced the stalk with a s/h spare, which isn't a perfect match for your car.
Just a case of repeating the exercise with the right bit - it's an easy 10-minute job to change, once you've found one. (Obviously can't gaurantee you have the rest of the bits....).

Can't help with Rapier spec., but there's several other Rapier owners on here....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

i agree its probably a replacement stalk probably from a D8 as all D9s have the horn on the steering wheel, apart from the early rapiers all rapiers had fogs fitted when the D9 first came out the rapier was basic of the basic it had no spec at all but the rapier youve got is the same as mine it has a unique all black interior 15" alloys, fogs, trip computer, chrome insets on all the mouldings, single slot CD player, chrome rings around the dials and 5 dails (speedo, rev counter, petrol, engine temp and oil temp)and rain sensing wipers amongst other things it sits around about the GLX mark so its mid range where most glxs have electric seats and puddle lights on the door pads and other bits and peices its got all the toys but not too much toys lol
