Which Handbrake?

Post by steve_earwig »

Looking in Service Box for a front handbrake cable for my D9 it brings up two - even with my chassis number as a filter, depending which handbrake lever is fitted:
A) ADJUSTMENT AT THE BASE
B) ADJUSTMENT AT THE TOP
I didn't know which I had, I could see the adjuster but it's half way up - is that top or base? So yesterday I had the centre console out to see if I could figure it out:

Hmm, still none the wiser. Then I noticed the little metal clip under the adjustment nut - that's only on the cable that adjusts from the top 8)

So if you force the centre console to the right, peer down the side of the handbrake and can see this nut then you have the handbrake that adjusts from the top. Hoorah. Btw. the other type that adjust from the base is the same one fitted on the D8 from RPO (build number) 07147 (March 1997), there's no RPO for the D9...

I've got no internal adjuster on mine, it's a right pain having to crawl under the car

I'm guessing your car was built before March 1997 :?

Yeah it's Oct '96 from memory?
Still, once I've got them adjusted up correctly I shouldn't need to touch them for a while! :supafrisk:

What's stamped on the brake under the blue mark? Part number?

Nothing so helpful as that, "X3 328" and at the other end it says "44 3", part number is 4701 79
