Urgent help please...

Post by Jay »

right, the 406 has a fault that ive never come accross before, the engine starts and runs fine, but without fuel gauge and rev counter working

as soon as the key is removed, the ODO reading reads 0000000 and the engine management light comes on and it just beeps at you

any ideas on this would be appreciated, could it just be a relay?

Which model & engine is it?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The usual one is damp cables under the carpet. Or possibly a bad earth somewhere (I'm not sure if this is any good to you but I found one recently under the centre console beneath the radio which looks big enough to be the main earth for the dash)

Without plugging diag kit into it (which would tell you if the BSI has the correct data but can't display it), I think I'd first start off by taking the instrument cluster out and checking for dodgy solder joints. I'd also re-plug it a few times in case it's just an iffy connection
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
