That's a D8. Could be a D8.5 of course but it's not a D9.

A D8.5 was an oft fabled car from the changeover period, featuring a mix of bits from both the D8 and the D9. We've seen various examples over the years, the simplest example that springs to mind was the one with the D8 front and the D9 rear, we all thought it was a cut 'n' shut for a bit...

It's a D8. It's got late spec wing mirrors and D9 doorcards (along with D9 vents and handbrake button). If you notice, above my original pic I did put "My D8:".

I was led to believe that a D8.5 is a term used to describe a non-multiplexed D9. Mid 1999 - Mid 2001. Having had a looky on the coupe forum, that seems to be the consesnsus.

I think the idea is it's neither one thing nor the other, the first one I saw when I joined up on here looked like a D8 on the outside but was a D9 on the inside, the worst of both worlds.

I think the coupes are different because the D8 "look" carried on for a few years. Not sure if I can tell the difference tbh

Nah the D8 and the D9 coupes ar identical on the exterior. Unless you're talking about that ugly bumper they stuck on the last ones in France?

I thought a D8.5 could have meant a D8 with a HDi engine before. Who knows...

A D8 on the outside and a D9 on the inside? Thats just unfortunate.

There's 406's about with D9 rears and D8 fronts, there's D8's with HDi engines and everyfink, hence the D8.5!

A proper D9 will have the MFD dash and a BSi unit, 'multiplexing' came later around 2003 - when the fires started :supafrisk:

The transition from 8 to 9 was weird and only really settled down when the old parts bins were empty

You can tell the difference. D8's can be usually seen at the petrol pumps. D9's on the hard shoulder
