2.0 16v Burning oil
My EW10 J4 burns up a bit of oil under hard acceleration. There is some plumes of blue smoke in the rear view. Not a ridiculous amount though. Is this normal? I hear that big pug engines do like to drink a bit of oil.

Re: 2.0 16v Burning oil
Well the honest answer is no it shouldn't be putting out blue smoke. Burning oil can be a sign of bore wear (very rare these days), valve guide/stem seal wear (the head could have gotten really hot once?), or a breather problem (blocked/resticted breathing).
You could try a compression and 'sniffer' test to see what that shows up (although most compression results throw up worrying differences as I've seen).
You could check over the breather system - is there a 'PCV' valve fitted on the head? looks like a little plastic in-line filter these can block up causing breather problems....have a read of this..http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/pcv-replace/

Stem seals is usually a puff of smoke when changing gear.
Could give it a compression test

Thats possibly it. It could be the valves. They're only 5k old. The head was changed after the timing belt went. Perhaps its something simple. A guy on the coupe club from Dublin said he'd have a look at it. I might as well cos it'll be ages before I can get to my regualr mechanic (Uncle) in Limerick. I'll post up if I figure out what it is that was wrong
