no headlights or horn

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

This looks familiar, did you ask this over on the coupe club?

I can only see the drawings of the loom on Service Box, which aren't very helpful. I believe there to be a connector under the battery tray which might be worth looking for, although it looks like the loom goes down either side of the engine bay, so presumably the join is somewhere up by the dash. Presumably you've checked for dodgy connectors on the units themselves, I know it's unlikely for all 6 to go down but I've seen stranger things. The only other thing I can suggest is to work backwards from the units themselves and trace the loom, looking for corroded connectors or damage.

Thanks for the reply , yes i asked on the coupe club but no replies as yet . do the plugs under the battery tray have anything to do with the lights? as i have disturbed these putting a new engine loom in .

This seems to be the main suspect for 406s suddenly becoming cyclopses but, looking at the drawing on Service Box it looks like this would only affect one side. Can't hurt to check it though.

Ooh, that's on the dash somewhere then. Hold on, it's a D8 so that's the same stick does both, check the connections on it.

i have checked the connections and they all seem fine , do you think it could be the switch itself ? it was fine before i changed the loom and seems strange that both the horn and the lights have stopped working

Without access to a proper diagram I'm not sure how the wiring's done, so I can't say dip/main and horn are on a separate feed because I just don't know :(

Ok, reaching for the book that I know for a fact doesn't cover your car... it says there are separate feeds for the side lights, dip/main and flash (all permanent) and indicators and horn (switched). Assuming this is somewhere near the truth, put a meter over the connector and see what you actually have. Before this is a "common connector", not even sure where that is though.

Btw do the headlamps flash?
