SCAM!

Post by peugeot406rapier »

i have my car on autotrader and i had an email yesterday asking about the car so i replied with the usual answers no offers, cars good etc then i recieved this email this morning i smell a scam!

"Thanks for the mail.

Am glad to read from you that you still have the item available for sale and am okay with your best price. I want to used this opportunity to tell you that am just an agent in the transaction. My client is okay with the price and his really interesting in buying it from you.

I have contact my client on phone this morning concerning the mode of payment, and my client will have love to make a bank transfer to you but is not around for now that is why he will contact is secretary in office to send the payment to you through cheque because that is the best way and easiest the money can be received by you.

My client also said he will inform his bank on phone to make sure that the money will be credited into your bank account between 3 - 5 days after the cheque have been deposited into your bank account..

The payment is going to be with cheque and excess money is going to be on it and the excess money is going to be for the shipping of the item in your location.

I have a shipping agency that will come to your location for the pick up as soon as possible.

The shipping agency will arrange all the vital documents and papers for the shipment.

The shipping agency will also sign all the document on my behalf including the sale contract when they have arrived at your location for the shipment.

As soon as you have the money credited in your account you will inform me the date and the time the shipping company will be coming down to your place for the pick up.

If my proposal is okay by you kindly get back to me with your full details below where to send the cheque.

Name on the cheque:
Address where to send the cheque:
City:
Code:
State:
Country:
Telephone{Home, Office, mobile}
Last price:..............£1495

I will looking forward to read from you with the details where to send the cheque and after the cheque have been deposit in your bank account the money will reflect between 3-5 days okay.

It's nice doing business with you and am ready to do more in future.

Best Regards

cheers for that mate, yeah i thought it smelt a bit nigerian LOL but nevermind, and exactly what i thought, shipping a pug 406? i mean if this bloke is from the mainland it was my understanding they are littered with hundreds of thousands of 406's so why a RHD standard 406 would be any interest lol!

You can also tell that they never mentioned the car once. They only reffered to it as an item. Stay away. The cheque will bounce and your car will be gone.

Cleared cheques can't be reversed once cleared can they?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Best part is they have almost used the England Football Managers name! Kind of pointing towards a scam.

That said, I sold my old car on eBay and a guy in France won the bid. He flew over, I picked him up at the local airport and he drove the car back to the south of France! I thought it was a scam when he was emailing me, but it wasn't!

Maybe they get you interested, go to send you a cheque, then change things and ask for your account details instead. They then have your name, address and bank account details :frown:

There was one once where they'd pay you £7,000.00 for a £2k car and then you gave then the 'change'
