ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - Stupid question?
A thought occured to me the other day - I've seen lots of references to the said 'ANTI POLLUTION FAULT', but is this the ONLY message you can get in the event of engine management gremlins?
For example, in the event of any sensor failure / poor connection etc., will it always holler 'ANTI POLLUTION FAULT', or does our trusty Pug have a few more words of encouragement I have still to look forward to?
Anybody know?

keeping quiet 'cos he never had the eml light on. Yet.
You could have a point though, I can't remember anyone saying they had any other cheer motto come up with the eml, it seems to be aunty pollution or just the light

Re: ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - Stupid question?
that would make perfect sense, since obd / engine management was only introduced to meet tougher emission laws in california & europe, then other areas and countries followed suit.
so it really is just an anti pollution system....stuck on a pollution machine....lol

I'm sure someone told me that when the car flags a fault it is pointing you
in the general direction of what could be wrong as it could be one of
several things in that area , hence when some people have taken their cars
to main stealers they look at the code then start to swap out the several parts
it eludes to until they find the right one

.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
Re: ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - Stupid question?
ok.
obd stands for On Board Diagnostics.
Almost all sensors, and the ecu / engine management system, are only there to maintain control of the emissions from the engine, and no other reason. If a sensor fails, or goes wildly out of spec, then an error code is flagged up.
If the ecu can adjust other parameters to account for changes in sensors as they age, then it does so silently, unless a limit is reached, or the sensor stops responding at all.
crank sensors, mafs, engine coolant temp sensors, lamba probes, cats all control the fuel burn to achieve optimum emissions. when the car is cold, it is in open-loop mode, and ignores lambda values until the cat has reached operating temp, then switches to closed-loop mode, where air and fuelling are tightly controlled.
Knock sensors and MAP sensors are seperately used to protect the engine from damage from detonation and overboost respectively, as lean burn mixtures have a tendency to cause knock and piston damage unless monitored and controlled.

Re: ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - Stupid question?
Do the D9's have a "K" light - That should give up ECU errors which have been logged!
As for the anti pollution fault - they are fairly common place here, mainly due to the humidity playing havoc with the pollution sensors. If you can find a way to read the fault code - it will help you bigtime!

Re: ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - Stupid question?
anyone know where the obd2 socket is on a D9?

By your right knee there's a panel that pops off - about the height of the steering wheel.FlySpeck wrote:anyone know where the obd2 socket is on a D9?
@ Doggy - as far as I know the only message relating to the ECU/sensors etc is 'ANTI POLLUTION'

In can do other tricks like ENGINE TEMP TOO HIGH, ELECTRONIC IGNITION FAULT (I had that once - on a Diesel
