Unknown rattle, after service

Post by CountryPug »

Last week I left my 4ohh into the local garage to get the timing belt and auxilary belt changed. After collecting the car and driving for a few days the engine seems less refined than when I dropped it in for the service, much more like an old Ford Transit than an HDI. I've had a look around the engine bay as I thought it might be a plastic cover or pipe which was causing the noise but after a good poke around I can see nothing obvious. I should also stress that the car sounds fine at idle and when holding speed, the rattle only becomes noticable when letting out the clutch or accelerating past the 2000rpm mark.

Anyone else had an experience like this or any idea of were this noise might be coming from? Suggestions appreciated as its getting bloody annoying :frown:

Top engine mounting bolts loose? Timing belt loose (not tensioned correctly?) Crank pulley bolt not tight?
Hard to say without listening to it.

Take it back if you're not happy and have them sort it out - I'm guessing you've just spent around £300.00 with them so......

Sounds very much like the top mount. Quite common to go, especially when you remove the bracket... Only about £20 for a new 'un
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Hopefully this is the source of the problem, I'll take the car over in the morning and see. What worries me is that its up for MOT on thursday, if its the top mount, would the car pass or fail? :?
