Re: 2.0 HDI 90BHP fitting a turbo
110bhp is for a 2.0 diesel?
Well, perhaps now, but think when these engines were designed, hell they're based on the old XUDs!

Go and get it remapped, makes a massive difference to the drivability of the car.

You can be forgiven for thinking the 90 has no turbo, hell you can't even see the thing without a struggle!
Re-mapping is the safest and easiest way to get more power (and economy) don't even consider trying to bolt on a bigger turbo. The standard unit is very reliable indeed.
All HDi's have a narrow power band between 1700-2800 rpm there's no 'turbo rush' as such, unlike the old 2.1td

Hi, if its a little more power you're after? then try a power chip, there a sinch to fit & give you a noticable boost
Re: 2.0 HDI 90BHP fitting a turbo
Surely whacking on an intercooler is first port of call?

If you want it to slow down yes.plod wrote:Surely whacking on an intercooler is first port of call?
Diesels rely mostly on the amount of fuel being injected for their power since the intake is just a big hole taking in the same amount of air each time, just cooling the charge air will do nothing without a new fuel map. In fact most remaps only really address the fuelling and leave the boost pressure alone or only slightly increased.

Re: 2.0 HDI 90BHP fitting a turbo
excellently put welly, ive been telling folks that for ages. It isnt intuitive that a diesels power comes solely from injection pressure and pump timing and confuses them that they are so different from a petrol, and as you say more turbo boost alone is no good either
to David (or anyone else wantin more grunt from a diesel) - a good cheap power mod is a tuning box, which only attaches (plug and play) to the fuel rail pressure sensor and increases injection pressure, if you cant afford a remap, which is just a cleverer fuel pressure increase but mapped to rpm and load instead of a "blanket" increase across the board. Tuning boxes can cause a bit of smoke at low revs as you open her up to pull away, and a good remap should not, but neither are always true, and both give bags more grunt. A tuning box can be had for £80 from ebay.

Get the car in the air, get underneath and follow the exhaust up behind the engine, can't miss it (might need a torch of course...)
